NRHS Soccer Updates - 10/11

Two very important games this week to decide the Northeast Ohio Conference - River Division title.

JVs have to maintain their tie for the division lead while the Varsity needs two wins for momentum to carry them into the playoffs.

Of course, the JV-B team has already claimed their Division title with two wins over Mayfield. Congrats !

I have posted the trail to the District title on the blog at the end of our regular season schedule. It is formidable but essentially the same schedule that past NRHS teams have prospered through over the years.

The Beckrests have kindly volunteered to take the first away game at Medina for AGM. Please contact Paula Gallagher at ragallagher3@roadrunner.com if you're interested in future games.

New indoor rules

As many of you know, there was a lot of confusion last year concerning off season rules and what specifically was allowed according to OHSAA rules. Many facilities were changing their format so the state had decided to wait until this past spring to restate their new guidelines. The following is what the state has decided.

1. Walled Indoor soccer that is sanctioned by US Soccer is allowed. This means that the field must be of the prescribed size and have dasherboards. Dasherboards can't be simply be the walls of the facility or small boards placed around the field. The goal size and number of players must be 5 field players and a GK.
2. Futsal is allowed. The OHSAA has stated that the game is sufficiently different from soccer to be allowed to be played without restrictions. This means that Futsal must be played on a field, ball, goals and surface according to the FIFA rules governing Futsal. Playing on a turf field is not allowed, the ball must be an official low-bounce Futsal ball and the field and goal size must also follow FIFA Futsal regulations.

For either game, the conditions can't be changed at the discretion of the facility. For instance, walled indoor soccer can't be played with more players because the field is bigger. Futsal can't be played on a turf field or with full size goals.
